I have gone through the post-soviet manhood school before moving to Europe. Empathy was never the strength of the Russian folk. And I felt punished for being honest about my anxiety:
“You have nothing to be anxious or depressed about, Andrei - you have a good life.”
Life with anxiety sucks. But expressing self-compassion helped me fight it. Marshall Rosenberg’s “Nonviolent Communication” taught me to see my needs behind the veil of angst and fear. And it also taught me empathy for others.
Anxiety is a tough nut to crack. But I am glad we are fighting it.
